The Evolution Of Legendary TRACKS, 531 W. 19th St. NYC,1985-1995...
a very important & underrated NY club, from 1985-1993 every Tuesday for a mostly young gay urban crowd of 2000 of devoted followers. At the time arguably the voguing capital of the world. With David Depino turning out the main floor, upstairs I was wearing several hats as DJ/VJ/light man. Three sides of the dance floor were covered with giant video screens, & could be quite intense, so I custom made my own videos & tightly controlled what was being shown. I recorded a lot of my sets on HiFi VHS tapes that 30 years later sound remarkably great. As a bonus, I also got a lot of great video recorded while using their state of the art equipment using effects I can't even reproduce today. Tracks changed hands a number of times over the years, but the Tuesday TRACKS parties paid the rent & always managed to stay. In 1990 it changed to "Kiimanjaro", then "Anything Goes", & "Strutts". Then in 1993 the Original Shelter opened it's doors to us for Shelter Tuesdays. Then a later version of Danceteria hosted our Tuesday nights. Finally we ended up at Sound Factory Bar & stayed there on Saturdays & Sundays through 1995. I recorded a lot of tapes over those years. This Sunday's tape is a solid 3+hr house set from 'Shelter Tuesdays' party 1993... . Shelter didn't have visuals, so they are borrowed from previous Tracks tapes & my now massive video collection of voguing, fashion runway, dancing, with loads of great special effects,
